Jenny Colledge was Accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a Specialist in Family Law in 2004 and the majority of her caseload relates to family law matters, including separation, divorce, cohabitants’ claims and actions relating to children.
At present, Jenny is the only Solicitor who has been accredited as a Family Law Specialist practising in Dumfries and Galloway and, as such, has an impressive client base from all across the region.
Jenny is a skilled and experienced litigator. Throughout her 20 year career, she has been sought out by clients across Dumfries and Galloway, as well as the central belt, and beyond, to represent them in Court.
Family law litigation has taken Jenny to Courts in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Perth, Jedburgh, Hamilton, Airdrie, Kirkcudbright, Stranraer, Duns, Fort William and, of course, to Jenny’s local Court, which is Dumfries Sheriff Court, where she can be seen regularly.
Jenny frequently finds herself “up against Counsel” on the other side of her cases and can hold her own in the most complex of litigation against the most experienced of Advocates. Jenny’s clients are referred to her, in the main, through word of mouth. This is proof of the fact that former clients have been impressed at her handling of prior cases. With so much experience over a 20 year career, Jenny’s client base continues to grow steadily.
Jenny is appointed regularly by our local Sheriffs to prepare Child Welfare Reports to assist the Courts in making decisions in difficult and challenging cases about children.
Jenny is keen to explore alternative ways of resolving disputes in the interests of her clients. She has trained as a collaborative lawyer.
She has also trained as a Family Law Arbitrator and, at present, is offering arbitration to her clients as an alternative to dispute resolution in the Court Room. Jenny can already see the benefits of choosing to arbitrate over litigate for her clients.
Jenny is a member of the Family Law Association; the Family Law Arbitration Group, and is the leader of the local Collaborative Pod Group and, in addition, Jenny has recently been appointed as the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Guild of Players in Dumfries.
In addition to her family law work, Jenny undertakes a wide range of civil litigation, including commercial work; contract; debt recovery and reparation. Jenny is also experienced in relation to employment tribunal work. As a business owner and employer herself, she keeps herself up to date with changes in employment law legislation, which, in turn, benefits the firm’s clients.
