Sandi Shields is from Kirkcudbright. She was educated at Kirkcudbright Academy and thereafter studied at the University of Glasgow, where she achieved an Honours Degree in law and, latterly, the Diploma in Legal Practice.
Sandi joined the firm as a Trainee Solicitor in March 2011, was assumed an Associate in August 2014 and then appointed as a partner in March 2016.
Sandi trained, in the main, with Jenny Colledge. During the first year of her traineeship, Sandi sat in on many contentious pieces of litigation. She has assisted Jenny in investigating and preparing many clients’ cases, particularly for Court.
The moment Sandi received her Restricted Practising Certificate and was able to appear in Court, she was sent to conduct a contentious hearing at Livingston Sheriff Court, where she did a great job for her client, holding her own in litigation right from the outset, in a case that would challenge even an experienced Solicitor.
Sandi’s litigation experience has taken her to the Court of Session in Edinburgh. She has also conducted cases herself in Sheriff Courts at Edinburgh, Glasgow, Livingston, Stranraer, Kirkcudbright, Selkirk and Hamilton, although Dumfries is where Sandi can be seen appearing most regularly.
Jenny says:- “Sandi’s preparation, investigation and the way she conducts her cases is first class. She is extremely personable and always looks after her clients professionally. I am tremendously proud of Sandi and of what she has achieved in her career so far.”
As far as career progression is concerned, Sandi hopes to continue to work with family law cases. She has a particular interest in any child law case, whether that be a Part 1 or Part 2 Application. Sandi has recently undergone training in collaborative practice and is now a fully trained collaborative lawyer.
Sandi says “I am delighted to have recently been appointed as partner in the firm. When I finished my Law Decree and Diploma, I was very keen, indeed, to come back to my roots to practice and I felt that I had struck gold when I secured a traineeship with Jenny in March 2011. I have a very extensive and varied caseload at present, however, my main interests are family law and child law, which make up the bulk of my workload. I am very excited about moving the business forward with Jenny.”
